Dr. Daniel M. Gurtner joined Gateway Seminary in 2022 as Professor of New Testament. He has taught in seminaries since 2005, including Bethel Seminary (St Paul, MN) and Southern Seminary (Louisville, KY). He has a passion for making Christ known through careful, deliberate, and worshipful study of the Bible, and training students to do the same. He publishes broadly in the New Testament and Second Temple Judaism, notably the award-winning T&T Clark Encyclopedia of Second Temple Judaism edited with Loren T. Stuckenbruck (2 vols., 2020). His primary research interests lie in the gospels and their interface with the Hebrew Bible and Second Temple Judaism, as in his published dissertation, The Torn Veil: Matthew’s Exposition of the Death of Jesus (Cambridge, 2007). He is author/editor of fifteen books and dozens of articles. Dr. Gurtner is currently writing the Word Biblical Commentary on the Gospel of Matthew. He is a member of the Evangelical Theological Society, Society for Biblical Literature, and the Studiorum Novi Testamenti Societas, among other organizations, and serves on several editorial boards.

Dan is originally from Pittsburgh, where he met his wife, Beth. Together they have three teenage children.
